Luncheonette

Reno, Nevada · 2026

A short documentary on Luncheonette’s opening: the delays, the preparation, and a neighborhood restaurant taking shape. Read the transcript

Four weeks became six weeks, then months. Luncheonette begins in that stretch between an idea and opening the doors: renovations, preparation, and a team about to put the place to the test.

The film follows a Reno restaurant built around New York deli influences—bagels, baked goods, Italian and Jewish food traditions—and a simple hope for the room: a place for someone grabbing lunch on the way to work and for neighbors settling into a casual brunch.

The film stays close to the working side of the restaurant. Conversations about the opening sit alongside kitchen preparation, lists, the team finding its rhythm, and the sign going up outside.

The story is carried by the people making the place. Their idea of a successful first service is refreshingly human: get through it calmly, treat each other well, and keep moving forward. The edit makes room for that pressure and the relief of finally reaching opening day.
